Job Role: Community Board Lead (Freelance)
Closing Date for Applications: Monday 5th October 2026, midday.
About All The Elements
All The Elements CIC is a nonprofit network for everyone creating change on diversity in the UK outdoors. We work across all diversity areas, all outdoor activities and nature, conservation and environment.
We support leaders working in the space through one-to-one calls, online and in-person events, and online resources. We also provide consultancy work to the sector.
We are currently a small team working part-time with the support of community volunteers and are starting to grow our capacity to fulfil the growing requirements of the community.
We are looking for a Community Board Lead to help us develop the systems, structures and terms of reference for a board of community members. The Community Board will work alongside our current Board of Exec and Non Exec Directors, contributing to the strategic development of All The Elements over the coming years. Our community is incredibly broad - we want to explore how we can hear more voices at board level, and continue to deliver on what the community needs.
About the role:
Location: Remote.
Type of role: Freelance.
Part time: 2 days a month for 3 months (but we are open to other ways of splitting the time in line with the project needs)
Rate: £250 per day.
Start Date: As soon as possible after recruitment is completed.
How to apply: Please send an email with your CV to hello@alltheelements.co with more details about yourself, why you think you’d be a good fit for this role and why the work of All The Elements interests you (500 word maximum). Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview via Zoom.
Closing date for applications: 5th October 2026, 2026
Key responsibilities:
Researching other community board and community advisory structures to inform which approaches best suit All The Elements.
Community consultation on the role of the community board, how they would like their voices heard and preferred / suggested structures.
Drawing up processes for recruiting community board members, meeting structures, Chair role description and powers, and how community board voices are heard in the central board.
Developing an implementation timeline for the Community Board.
About you:
You are excited about the opportunity to help amplify community voices and to support community-led decision making. You are creative and values-led, and approach projects with those qualities first. But you also have the skills to then go further and put in place systems and processes that are effective, equitable and nonprofit compliant.
You recognise that building a community board is an important part of All The Elements commitment to delivering on the community’s evolving needs.
Essential
Desire to make the outdoors more accessible to all and representative of UK society.

Experience of community consultation through focus groups, surveys and/or other methods.
Flexible approach to problem solving.
Knowledge of the All The Elements community and our intersectional work.
Ability to prioritise the needs of the community.
Confidence that you can develop a structure that works in the short term and can develop and evolve in the long term.
Desirable
Research experience of, or interest in, emergent strategy and/or unconventional board structures.
Experience at board level.
Lived or working experience of one or more of the underrepresented groups that we represent.
Understanding of not-for-profit organisations such as CICs.
Experience using Google Workspace, Airtable and Trello (or excellent at picking up software quickly).
