Funding for organisations who are making trail-based activities (eg- hiking) more inclusive and/or protect the trail environment. This fund prioritises organisations who work with people facing barriers to accessing the outdoors.
To be eligible for funding your project must fit with at least one of their funding pillars:
Belonging on the trail - Promoting inclusivity on the trail as the outdoors should be for everyone, no matter your location, background, income.
Accessibility to the trail - Make the trail accessible to everyone. Be it demographically, physically, mentally or any other reason.
Protecting the trail - Drive meaningful impact to protecting trails and outdoor spaces, whether it be plogging, creating urban green spaces or projects that care for the trail environment.
An example recipient of this fund is The YHA (England & Wales). Who received £60,000 from the Merrell fund to support their work in providing opportunities for people to access the outdoors through programmes such as Outdoor Citizens. You can find out more information on how the YHA are using this fund on the YHA website.
