Meet the komoot x All The Elements 2026 Community Fund Recipients

We are so excited to share that All The Elements Community members Climb Muz, Women of Colour Cycling Collective, Fences & Frontiers, Black Trail Runners, ESEA Outdoors UK and Bike Dykes are the recipients of the 2026 komoot x All The Elements Community Fund.

They will each be awarded £1000 to go towards their work improving access and representation in the UK outdoors. As there are no restrictions for how the fund should be used, the awarded projects are all very different, and show an insight into the variety of the different ways that community groups are helping to increase access to hiking, running and cycling.

This is our second year working in partnership with komoot, and we are delighted to have been able to increase the number of funding pots available. Despite this increase, the fund was still highly competitive and oversubscribed. We received a particularly high standard of application and as always wish we were able to support more of the incredible communities who are part of our network.

Meet ClimbMuz

ClimbMuz is a climbing group that provides Muslim women, ethnic minority groups and people of colour with a safe space to explore the world of climbing. Through regular indoor and outdoor sessions, they help people discover the physical, mental and social benefits of climbing while building confidence in the outdoors.

Although ClimbMuz is a climbing community, they plan to use the komoot X All The Elements Community Fund to run navigation and outdoor leadership training for their facilitators. Their application highlighted the importance of these hiking skills for their community, in particular for outdoor trips where participants often need to walk to the crag, navigate uneven terrain, follow approach paths, understand access notes, and feel confident travelling through unfamiliar outdoor environments.

Through the training participants would gain confidence not only in climbing, but also in hiking to crags, reading routes, understanding terrain and feeling that the outdoors is a place where they belong. ClimbMuz hope that this will also strengthen their volunteer capacity, reduce reliance on paid support, and help more Muslim women and women of colour see themselves represented in outdoor and mountain spaces.

Meet Women of Colour Cycling Collective

Women of Colour Cycling Collective is a grassroots, member-led cycling community for women, trans and non-binary people from global majority backgrounds. The community exists to address the under-representation of women of colour and marginalised genders within cycling and outdoor spaces and they empower cyclists across the UK by building community, providing training, and creating opportunities for people to ride and thrive in cycling.

Women of Colour Cycling Collective plan to use the fund to deliver a free summer learn-to-cycle programme in London for both existing members who haven't yet learned to ride and new participants interested in accessing cycling in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. The programme will include a series of lessons followed by confidence building rides. Following the programme participants will have the opportunity to continue engaging with their regular group rides and community activities, creating long-term pathways into outdoor participation.

Women of Colour Cycling Collective hope that through this programme participants will gain confidence, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and build social connections through a supportive group environment resulting in lasting friendships and peer support networks.

Meet Fences & Frontiers

Fences & Frontiers is a London-based charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers through cultural, educational and nature-based activities. They create welcoming spaces where people can build friendship, improve their wellbeing and develop a sense of belonging.

They will use the komoot x All The Elements Community Fund to expand their Never Walk Alone project, which supports refugees and asylum seekers in London to access and feel confident in the UK countryside through guided hiking and nature-based activities. In particular they plan to organise a trip to a more remote location outside of London allocating the fund towards transport fees, first aid training and refreshments. The trip will be led by trained volunteers, including former participants (refugees and asylum seekers) who now act as walk leaders and role models.

The fund will directly support Fences & Frontiers core aim of enabling refugees and asylum seekers to access and feel a sense of belonging in parts of the UK countryside where they are underrepresented, and often feel insecure or unwelcome.

Meet Black Trail Runners

Black Trail Runners is a community and campaigning charity that seeks to increase the inclusion, participation and representation of people of Black ethnicity in trail running. Through a range of community events, they are helping to create a more inclusive trail culture across the UK. Black Trail Runners has recently launched a long-term youth development initiative - The BTR Youth Collective - aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of Black youth in outdoor sports, particularly trail running through supporting the development of youth leaders and athletes aged 16 - 24, known as Youth Champions.

They will use the komoot x All The Elements Fund to support the founding cohort of Youth Champions to attend trail running events across the UK, allocating the fund towards transport, accommodation, kit and facilitation.

Black Trail Runners hope that this initiative will support young leaders to gain experience, build confidence and represent the next generation of Black trail runners.

Meet ESEA Outdoors UK

ESEA Outdoors UK was founded in 2023 to connect East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) outdoor enthusiasts through hiking, running, climbing, and other outdoor activities across the UK. They aim to tackle the social and structural barriers many ethnic minority communities face in accessing the outdoors by creating welcoming, supportive spaces in nature, while celebrating ESEA joy and belonging in the outdoors.

They will use the komoot x All The Elements Community Fund to run a weekend-long outdoor skills event in North Wales for members from across their regional groups, allocating the fund towards accommodation, a travel subsidy and refreshments. The weekend will include staying together in a mountain hut and taking part in hiking and trail running activities focused on navigation, outdoor leadership and building confidence in the outdoors. The weekend will support members with a wide range of experience, from complete beginners to those on the path towards Mountain Leader qualification.

ESEA Outdoors UK hope that this weekend skills event will support their long-term aim to empower more ESEA members to become confident local leaders. Supporting event participants to gain confidence in the outdoors and enabling them to go on to organise inclusive and safe outdoor and hiking activities in their own communities.

Meet Bike Dykes

Bike Dykes is a community project in London creating a more accessible and inclusive cycling space for queer FLINTA* riders. As a casual cycling group, Bike Dykes encourage people to ride whatever bike they have and wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

They will use the komoot x All The Elements Community fund to directly invest in volunteer development and leadership in their community. They plan to allocate the fund towards both on-road and off-road ride leader training provided by British Cycling, as well as Outdoor first aid training and safety equipment. As the Bike Dykes community grows, they are looking to increase their volunteer capacity enabling them to run regular rides, support larger groups and provide a wider range of cycling activities. They hope that the training would give a selection of volunteers the skills needed to create a safer environment for participants.

Through the MTB (Mountain Bike) Leader qualification, Bike Dykes will also significantly expand the scope of activities they can offer as a group. It will allow them to safely lead off-road and gravel rides, opening up access to new routes and experiences across London and beyond that they are currently limited in delivering.
